About us

Small background of our inspiration and vision for forming this company.
Historically India is a culturally rich country. One of the ancient civilization started here by the valley of the Sindhu River. Our evidential history starts with one of the most civilised colonel living in Harapa & Mohanzodaro. The amazing hand carving is something to treasure and valued across the globe. Though we don’t have any evidences of clothing due to short life cycle of the product but we have many written reference like Valmiki’s Ramayana, In the Kishkindha Kanda of Ramayana, it is stated that one travelling towards the east has to first pass through Magadha, Anga, Pundra and then the Kosha-karanam-bhumi (“the country of cocoon rearers”). Kautilya’s Arthashastra, a political literature of the 3rd century, makes references to the highly sophisticated silk clothing from Assam. At present we been known in the world to produce most finest silk, largest producer of cotton fibre and many delicate hand work.
Our varied climatic conditions blessed us with variety in food, fashion and lifestyle. Lately after industrialisation our handmade products which was the lifestyle of people took a back stage and hence slowly started to die. While past few decade the government is been taking a lot of effort to restore our indigenous art & culture but we still have a long way to go.

Brand Inspiration - G'masTrunk

The first lesson of one’s life comes from their immediate family. I have been little more privileged to be growing up in a loving family with my grandparents around. After attaining certain age I understood that who I am today because of upbringing I got. While growing up it was just so normal to see my grandmother’s generosity toward her immediate family to distance relatives to the people around her of any strata. I don’t remember anyone going hungry from her being at home, in fact people came home to have some of her delicacies. This extended even to the animals too. I also remember every winter she use to give away many warm clothes and utility products to people in need around.

She had an exquisite taste in clothing. I could see best of fabrics, colours, prints and embroideries in her big trunk. She use to make amazing hand embroidered linens, old clothes restored with patch work, hand knitted woollens and decorative for home. And no matter how busy she was, she kept herself well-groomed with long black hair, manicured nails and always glowing skin.

The most exciting thing in those days were to open the big trunks she had. Those wooden/metal trunks were like a treasure hunt for all the kids of the house. Filled with amazing stuffs from her exquisite range of sarees, jewelleries and many handmade articles. When she opened it, she had something for each one of us there.

Being eldest of her grand kids I been most loved as I felt…. hence being very close to her and highly influenced by her way of living a life which was sustainable in itself. From maintaining a backyard organic garden to prepare amazing delicacy, having an eye to pick & preserved most exquisite clothing’s, prepared handmade grooming products like uptan (Face pack) or henna, hand stitched & embroidered home linens, getting beautiful jewelleries designed, preserved seasonal flavours in pickle/Jam/Jelly and so on.

I am sure many of you reading this will related to this with your respective Grandmother’s. Inspired by many Grandmother’s like my Gma and her treasure trunk, Here we trying to provide a one stop platform for seeker to buy most authentic and sustainable products of Indian origin. We constantly trying and hoping each one of you find something from Gma’s Trunk.

She feel fortunate enough to be living & visiting different parts of country and getting to know different culture & lifestyle very closely so far in her life. So growing up only she developed a keen interest in various indigenous arts and crafts, as she grew up & also travelled across country. She got into a carrier which was her most intrinsic love, the love and eye for fashion. She went on to work with the biggest Retailers and brands of the country like Future Group, Reliance Retail & ABFRL as buyer for fashion and lifestyle products. Worked closely with a lot of artisans as a part of research for new collections. This helped her enhance the understanding of various art forms of India. And after almost 13 years of corporate retail life she felt it was a time to pursuit her interest and passion of all these years into an entrepreneurial venture. She is a sports enthusiast, love to explore different culture & cuisines, enjoy doing gardening and listening to music in her leisure time.
